Eat Lectin Free

Are you eating a Lectin Free Diet, some may be on this diet and not even realize. There are many Lectin free friendly foods, and there are many high Lectin Foods. So what is a Lectin and why it is SO BAD FOR YOU? Well, lectins are a specific type of protein that literally attacks our body in ways that are actually very dangerous. As stated on gundrymd.com by Dr. Gundry himself; “Well, lectins are like little barnacles that look for specific sugar molecules in our blood, the lining of our gut, and on our nerves. When they find a good spot to land, they cling to those cells, breaking down their ability to communicate with our immune systems.” The barnacles tear open little holes between the cells that line our intestines causing health problems like; leaky gut syndrome, autoimmune disease and much more. So if they are really damaging our system that much, why are we eating those foods.

The reason is we aren't aware of certain foods that have lectins inside of them and many of those foods are portrayed to be “healthy foods” but they're not. Many foods like legumes and beans are very high in lectins and a lot of us think that they are healthy. But the reality is, they're not unless they are cooked in a pressure cooker. The pressure cooker is the only way to eliminate most of the lectins and in some cases all of them. The pressure cooker cooks at such a high pressure forcing those proteins to break down. Some other foods that are high in lectins are; corn, squash, zucchini, grains, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, A1 Milk, peanuts, cashews, peas, lentils, pumpkin, and fruits not in season. I know that is a pretty long list and I’m sure there are more to add, but those are the important ones to stay away from. Foods like peanuts, cashews, and lentils are loaded with lectins and we should stay far away from them at all times.

Lectins are considered the “unhealthy foods”, so in my mind it's simple, take them out. It's okay to eat every once in a while if you truly love one of those foods but absolutely try to limit the intake of these foods. The good news is, there are a lot of foods you can eat and not get sick. Some of those foods are; walnuts, pecans, pistachios, hazelnut, asparagus, garlic, celery, mushrooms, onion, avocado, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, leafy greens, garlic, pastured chicken, grass fed- grass finished beef, wild caught fish and much more. Dr. Gundry has a large list of items on his website to avoid and foods to eat. There are many other websites that list these items also. I know there are so many diets out there and so many people saying different things. My opinion is just don't eat too much of anything, stick to the healthier foods and change up the diet. Never sick to the same diet, it will help the boredom of one type of food and stop you from getting sick. There will also be more science of different foods, the best thing to do is stick to the healthier simple foods like leafy greens, pastured chicken, wild caught fish, and grass-fed meat. If you stick to a healthy lifestyle your body will reject foods you shouldn't eat.
